KU- AND KA-BAND GAN LOW NOISE AMPLIFIERS
3, January 2022

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-11120
Open Date: 21/12/2021 16:47 CEST
Closing Date: 15/03/2022 15:00 CEST

In conventional Ku- or Ka-band radar or passive radiometer instruments, the low noise amplifier (LNA) is protected by a limiter, against unwanted signals (transmit signal leakage and Radio-Frequency Interferences). With the advent of gallium nitride (GaN), it is possible to design robust LNA Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) which do not require a limiter at the input, or require a less demanding limiter, hence improving the noise figure of the receive front-end. Moreover, latest GaN processes have demonstrated state of the art noise figure performances. The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture and test a Ku-band and a Ka-band Gallium Nitride (GaN) Low Noise Amplifier suitable for integration in radar and passive radiometer instruments.
