21, October 2021

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10982
Open Date: 19/10/2021 16:35 CEST
Closing Date: 17/11/2021 13:00 CEST

With increasing exploration activities around Lunar and Mars destinations forecast, it is timely to examine the need for Europe and ESA to support the development of a large-scale Moon/Mars analogue ground-based facility. ESA is planning to develop several small-scale Mars missions in the future, as well as payloads for Moon exploration. An analogue ground-based facility with controlled environment could become the focal point for instrument and hardware testing and ISRU studies in synergy with upcoming facilities at LUNA (EAC, Cologne) and ESRIC (Luxembourg). The proposed study will reassess key gaps, propose preliminary requirements to close the gaps, assess uses and users’ needs for the identified preliminary requirements, and assess the resources and funding needed for the next steps.
