BIOMASS is ESAs 7th Earth Explorer mission. The main objective of BIOMASS is to provide estimates of the distribution of the above ground forest biomass, of forest height and its temporal dynamics and disturbances, mainly for the tropical forest. This informationshall greatly reduce the uncertainty of the land component in the global carbon cycle. Flex is ESAs 8th Earth Explorer mission. TheFLEX mission will provide global maps of vegetation fluorescence emission spectra, as primary measurements, to advance our understanding of the functioning of the photosynthetic machinery, and the actual health and performance of terrestrial vegetation. This procurement is performed under the frame of the development of the BIOMASS and Flex Payload Data Ground Segments (PDGS). Its scope is toimplement:- the System Monitoring Facilities for the Biomass PDGS- the System Monitoring Facilities for the Flex PDGSThe PDGS System Monitoring Facility is in charge of the end-to-end performance monitoring of any aspect of the products handling, from the sensing in orbit, to the acquisition of X-Band data up to the data availability to the users. The PDGS System Monitoring Facility will perform monitoring activities by implementing a model of the PDGS nominal behaviour and comparing real behaviour wrt the expected one.Monitoring results will be reported via interactive web interface and systematic and ad-hoc reporting. The main tasks requestedin this procurement are: – Design, Development and testing up to the delivery of the SW, implementing the requested functionalities, together with the required supporting documentation- Provision of engineering support for PDGS system level integration, training and PDGS commissioning- Corrective and evolutive maintenance The contract expected duration is 45 months.
