Since its inception in 1996 the ECSS organization has codified more than 130 standards, containing around 30.000 requirements for the development and operations of European Space Systems. These standards are currently available in the form of documents (MS Word and PDF). With the objective of moving from paper documents as a reference to a digital databased system, the requirements have been copied to a requirements management system using IBM Rational DOORS ®, tailored for the purpose of the ECSS context. With this activity, the Agency and its ECSS partners initiates the next step towards the full digital management of the ECSS system that is the, byincrement, development of a new ECSS requirements management system, called E-RMS. This activity is for the assessment and the specification of the software requirements for the first E-RMS software version. In this activity, the focus is put on the capture and the modelling of all stakeholders needs (i.e. mainly the ECSS organization, space agencies and system integrators andtheir supplychain) in terms of: – information and process to be maintained within the E-RMS, and – software capabilities to interact with this information, including local and remote accessing the E-RMS but also covering the exchanges with other software systems such as product or company specific requirements management system or any other product development tools and techniques, used by Agencies andIndustries.
