The objective of this activity is the design, development, manufacturing and test of a clock ensemble, monitoring and switching unit for robust timescale generation.Current solutions for robust timescale generation, in terms of stability and continuity relies ona distributed and complex redundant hardware architecture with dedicated equipment that require specific skills and experience to operate and maintain. In addition, the handling of clock switching (e.g. in case of clock failure) does not always guarantee phase continuity. Based on concepts already investigated for on-board applications, an alternative solution relying on an integrated system shall be developed for timescale generation on ground. The main benefit over the state-of-the-art will be a fully integrated rack mountable unit providing all required functionalities and performance, thereby strongly improving the operation and reliability of the timescale.
