This activity will further develop the SWE networks regional geomagnetic service portfolio in the area of real-time and short- to medium-term forecast services. This activity will use the results of the Geomagnetic Activity Forecast Service (GAFS) pilot development that the Danish Meteorological Institute carried out in 2005- 2007 and will interface with the Service Supporting Resource Exploitation System Operators (RESOSS) developed within the framework of the SN-VI activity. A geomagnetic disturbance level will be provided and scaled according to the geographic area middle, high and polar cap latitudes according to specific user requirements for this domain. In addition to real-time data, a one-hour regional forecast as a minimum will be provided, along with reliability statistics. Geomagnetic activity forecasts with significantly longer lead times will need to take into account observations of transient solar events such as coronal mass ejections and incorporate recurrent solar wind phenomena such as high-speed solar wind streams. This activity will use services from the Heliospheric Weather Expert Centre to develop a prototype geomagnetic forecast service for the arctic region. The new services developed as part of this activity will be integrated into the SSA SWE system as part of the Geomagnetic Conditions Expert Centre and will be compatible with the SSA SWE Arctic Services roadmap developed as part of the P2-SWE-XII activity.
