ESA plans to launch an annual European Space Exploration Earth Innovation Competition (ESEEIC), starting with a first pilot ESEEIC in 2016, with the intention to launch subsequent competitions in 2017 and 2018 if the pilot is considered successful and adequate co-funding can be secured. Each annual ESEEIC will look to award prizes to both existing Technology Transfer Business Success Cases (technology transfer success stories) and New Ideas for Business Innovation using ESA space exploration ground and space-based infrastructures and space exploration-derived technologies or assets in everyday life applications of potential benefit to society.
