The Advanced GPS Galileo ASIC (AGGA-4) is a radiation tolerant GNSS baseband integrated circuit capable of processing the modernized GPS, Galileo, Glonass, and Compass-Beidou signals. In addition to the GNSS core, AGGA-4 also incorporates a LEON2FT processor, communication interfaces (UART, SpaceWire, MIL-Bus1553) and other support functions (FFT, CRC,..). AGGA-4 will typically be used in platforms using a multi-GNSS constellation receiver, and also in GNSS Radio Occultation instruments for atmospheric sounding. The AGGA-4 ASIC has been manufactured on ATMEL ATC18RHA process (UMC foundry) and has a 352 pin MQFP package from E2V. AGGA-4 design includes 6 Mgates in a die size of 13×13 mm, including pads. The ATC18RHA space library is characterized up to 100 Krad(Si) TID. Even though Single Event Effects (SEE) are mitigated with the use of radiation hardened flip-flops on most critical functions, SEE sensitivity of the whole ASIC is not fully known. A SEE characterization of the ASIC is needed for critical applications, in particular for those parts which are not hardened, or which follow a different fault-tolerance concept compared to other Integrated Circuits. The objective the activity is to fully characterize the heavy ion and proton SEE sensitivity of AGGA-4 ASIC and to provide error rates in selected target orbits. The output of this activity will provide crucial input to designers and GNSS system engineers in order to allow the implementation of proper radiation effects mitigation at design and system level, if needed.
