Identify, benchmark and proof new approaches, technologies and modular and scalable architectures for the end-to-end Monitoring & Control (M&C) of Payload Data Ground Segments (PDGS), in view of upcoming EO Explorer missions and potentially to be used in already existing missions. This technology project shall re-define the technologies and the Monitoring and Control approach for Earth Explorer Missions (and potentially also operational missions), addressing various possible technology development areas:The specific technologies suitable for either Monitoring or Control (or both) and their automation of a generic PDGS shall be identified; A technology analysis and benchmark of various tools and visual programming languages shall be performed in order to select one (or two) candidate languages and environments to be used for the prototyping, demonstration and validation; An architectural analysis of the two possible elements (Monitoring and Control) shall be performed looking at various possible technologies and at the implications on existing Payload Data Ground Segments and at the potential for integration with minimum impact on forthcoming missions like ADM-Aeolus and EarthCare; The project shall analyse and benchmark technologies allowing the definition of a PDGS Monitoring & Control hierarchical approach allowing capturing PDGS sub-systems housekeeping information, analysis, reporting and transmitting dedicated commands (if applicable). Such technology could be bases on elementary graphic widgets and/or high level programming languages (e.g. LabView, JavaScript, etc.) to have high level functionalities on graphical user interfaces. The technical and user interfaces, data exchange methods and new technological approaches shall be analysed and benchmarked (REST, ATOM, Apps, file based, etc.) keeping into particular consideration also the requirement of re-usability. Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additional information please go to EMITS news (dated 05/02/2001) “Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and R&D entities in ESA programmes”.
