TEST BED FOR M2M/IOT RECEIVER DEVELOPMENT (ARTES AT 3A.137)
18, octombrie 2021

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10676
Open Date: 17/09/2021 12:37 CEST
Closing Date: 02/12/2021 13:00 CEST

The objective of the activity is to develop a flexible test bed that allows system-level verification and testing in the laboratory of M2M/IoT receivers before they are launched. To test the end-to-end functionalities and performance software-based receivers will be used.Targeted Improvements: Enabling early testing of M2M/IoT systems and receivers in a realistic emulated environment. Description: In recent years, the growth of satellite M2M/IoT services and applications has been significant. To support the demand, new satellite IoT/M2M protocols have been developed with some of them being adopted by industry and implemented in their systems. However, industry and satellite operators still face high uncertainty regarding the suitability of a candidate protocol for a targeted market and traffic profile. To eliminate this risk, the activity will develop a software-defined test bed that will enable early testing of M2M/IoT systems and receivers in a realistic emulated environment. The test bed will be programmable allowing to emulate a complete satellite IoT/M2M system in order to synthesize the signal as received at the output of the antenna of one given satellite. This signal can then be fed to the IoT/M2M receiver under test for verifying its functionality and performance. The test bed will support a wide range of advanced M2M/IoT protocols such as NBIoT, CRDSA, E-SSA, slotted Aloha to allow the selection of the best possible protocol that fulfils the operator’s needs. In addition, the test bed will support user-defined protocols. For not fully asynchronous protocols, ways to implement the feedback loop from the receiver to the transmitter will be investigated and implemented. The testbed will be capable of emulating high-load traffic scenarios and determine the system performance. Flexible and realistic channel emulation capabilities will be included. The test bed will be able to emulate the inter-system interference from other M2M/IoT networks and assess its impact on the system performance. To test the end-to-end functionalities and performance of the test bed, software-based receivers will be used. Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs).
