The proposed activity, OSRA-ION is aiming at developing tools supporting architectural trade-offs and generation of requirements for new spacecraft communication systems. OSRA-ION is a follow-on of activity T720-401SW „A new network paradigm for the On-Board Reference Architecture” activity, shortened to OSRA-Net that defined requirements to be fulfilled by the spacecraft Data Handling System. OSRA-ION would benefit from activity T702-306SW „Advanced Avionics Architecture Modelling Language” (AAML) that explored how different kind of system analyses (mass, power, communication) can be supported by an architecture modelling language.Considering the requirements identified in OSRA-Net and the characteristics of communication means, the tool to develop shall support the modelling ofthe overall communication system and the trade-off of different avionics architecture through dedicated analyses. The tools shall also be able to summarise a set of requirements for the definition of future buses and links. The activity shall encompass the following tasks:- The analysis of the communication requirements identified in OSRA-Net and the selection of the communication solutions to be considered;- The development of tool(s) that support:- The modelling of the communicating elements within a spacecraft (Software tasks, sensors, actuators, etc.) And their connections;- The analyses required to perform the trade-offs of the communication system based on a library of existing communication products.- The consolidation of requirements related to a particular communication network, bus or link;- The demonstration of the tools through two different Use Cases:- First Use Case consists in the modelling and the analysis of the architecture of an existing spacecraft for what concern communications. The analysis performed on thisrepresentative model will demonstrate the validity of the approach by comparing the results of the analyses and the characteristicsof the real implementation and demonstrate the possibility to perform architectural trade-off by modifying the model to be representativeof future systems and performing new analyses.- The second Use Case shall consist in the generation of a set of requirements for aparticular communication system model. The impact of the implementation of these requirements shall be assessed and a roadmap for the development of the corresponding solution proposed.Software shall be delivered under an Esa Software Community Licence, so that any individuals or entities whithin ESA Member States can access to it and can provide update to the community of users.
