This activity is a direct response to some of the major discussion points gathered during the Colour and Light in the Ocean (CLEO),organized in ESRIN, in 2016. The meeting aimed at reviewing the progress done by the community in the domain of ocean colour and related applications and draw a number of recommendations for the future. In addition, this activity also aims at responding to the recommendations of the 3rd Carbon from Space Workshop, organized in Exeter (UK) in 2016. The meeting resulted in a number of recommendations for future activities, where ocean carbon represented a major focus area. This project aims at capitalizing on the latest developments in ocean colour research and on the different activities that ESA has funded in the last few years in this domain. These projects cover a wide range of topics from enhancing the estimation of carbon pools in the ocean to deriving new Photosyntetically Active Radiation (PAR) or Primary Production products, providing a wide spectrum of new results and novel capabilities that open the door to a new approaches to better characterize the Carbon biological pump in the ocean. Ocean+ Carbon aims at exploiting these newcapabilities and advance towards a better understanding of the Ocean biological pump from space, its processes, variability and itsinteractions with the different component of the Earth system.
