The ESA Education Office is initiating the activity ESA Education e-learning Study Methodologies, Guidelines and Tools, as partof the strategic evolution of the ESA Education Programme. The study will aim at designing the foundations of a future sustainable and advanced e-learning ecosystem that will complement and integrate ESAs traditional teaching and learning activities, and position the ESA Education Programme as a role model in the strategic area of Distance and Blended Learning. The ESA Education Programme (www.esa.int/education) offers a rich portfolio of activities and projects targeting primary and secondary school pupils, school teachers and university students from ESA Member and Associate Member States. The ultimate aim of the Programme is to engage and enablestudents to increase their literacy, competences and skills in STEM disciplines, and encourage them to undertake a STEM career, in order to sustain Europes need for a qualified STEM workforce, related to space in particular. The confinement restrictions imposed by COVID-19 have accelerated the uptake and need for e-learning activities. With the study activity in subject, the ESA Education Office intends to further investigate the methodologies and technologies needed and/or available to inform and establish a sustainable e-learning ecosystem; the latter shall be able to complement and integrate with the current portfolio of ESA Education activitiesthrough Asynchronous, Synchronous and Blended e-learning for all its target audiences (primary and secondary school pupils, school teachers and university students).The outcome of the study shall include:· Methodological guidelines for the design and deliveryof e-learning activities in Synchronous, Asynchronous and Blended formats, addressing different user profiles and different learning objectives;· Identification of a possible Suite of Tools (off-the-shelf) to bring into use the e-learning system;· Requirements to define the e-learning sustainable ecosystem;· Propose an Implementation Plan to bring into use the e-learning system;· Advice on what functions can be outsourced to an external service.
