As is currently seen in aerospace developments more and more metallic materials are being replaced by composite and polymeric alternatives as a driver towards higher performance (mass saving is essential in particular for exploration missions), environmental impacts and lower operating costs. It is proposed to investigate the detailed requirements for a crew space transportation vehicle and identify the requirements for composite elements or potential composite elements which can be developed for the crew vehicle structure.
