Ariel is the M4 mission in the Scientific Programme. It was adopted in November 2020 by the Science Programme Committee and is proceeding into the implementation phase, with the Spacecraft Prime contract to be kicked off by the end of 2021. Ariel will investigate the atmospheres of many hundreds of diverse planets orbiting different types of stars to address fundamental scientific questions. The main objective of this procurement is to allow the timely provision of high quality Electrical, Electronic and Electro-mechanical(EEE) components requested by the payload suppliers, in compliance with the project Product Assurance requirements, while minimising the associated cost. Based on experience from other ESA science projects, in order to guarantee this, a coordinated parts procurement approach is considered the most appropriate approach.
