FEASIBILITY STUDY ON ADVANCED COTS RF TRANSCEIVERS FOR SPACE APPLICATIONS – EXPRO+
23, iulie 2021

ESA Open Invitation to Tender: 1-10913
Open Date: 19/07/2021 11:21 CEST
Closing Date: 20/09/2021 13:00 CEST

Integrated RF Transceiver circuits such as the AD9361 are a building block of compact Software-Defined Radio systems, including some Space applications. Advances in miniaturisation are paving the way for a newer generation of advanced RF Transceivers, scaling the number of channels as well as providing advanced functions such as digital up/down-conversion, frequency hopping and filtering, as well as new digital interfaces such as JESD204. These new devices hold the promise to enable more integrated and performing RF-based payloads in a diverse range of mission profiles, with features such as Multiple-Input/Multiple-Output (MIMO), Digital Beamforming (DBF) and agile frequency reconfiguration. This activity focuses on gathering an overview of existing and future advanced COTS RF transceiver devices, and to identify payload scenarios where these devices can be exploited, also taking into account the Space environment restrictions. A demonstrator based on payload scenario(s) and RF transceiver device(s) is to be implemented, demonstrating the feasibility of using such devices.
