Traditional space evaluation and validation testing performed on MMICs (Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuits), assumes the use of the MMIC chip in a hermetic environment, which is typically not the case for MMIC Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products.Currently, most of the catalogue MMICs available in Europe are proposed either in plastic package or in bare die form with a specific protection layer. While it is possible to receive approval for the use of these components in ESA missions following ECSS-Q-ST-60-13C testing requirements, this is a case by case approval and data is typically not available outside of the project.The aim of this activity is therefore to assess the compatibility of selected commercially available MMICs with space requirements and to identify critical issues possibly affecting the reliability of such parts for space use.This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Review and selection of commercial MMIC products (bare die and plastic packaged) suitable for space application (e.g. operating frequency, bandwidth, RF power level)- Review of available commercial or automotive qualification data for the parts- Preparation of test plan with ECSS-Q-ST-60-13C as a baseline (in particular environmental testing, high low temperature characterisation, solderability, constructional analysis)- Test campaign- Results analysis and identification of critical issues/testingProcurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
