The objective is to demonstrate the technical and programmatic feasibility of the Cis-lunar Transfer Vehicle (CLTV) and of its candidate missions and evaluate its programmatic constraints (i.e. schedule and cost). Further, the objective is to achieve a consolidated set of reference missions and a preliminary system design to the degree required to prepare a mission implementation proposal to the Member States in 2022 and to enter the following detailed definition and implementation phases, aiming at a first flight by 2028. The CLTV could initially rely on the basic Ariane 6.4 capability, but it would greatly benefit from an improvement of the launcherperformance on translunar injection trajectories via an improvement of the launcher cryogenic upper stage, as currently planned for2025 (in time for the CLTV first flight). The CLTV work proposed under this procurement shall be advanced to a level of maturity adequate for the implementation of a System Requirements Review (SRR) before the end of 2022.
