In the aim of maximising the scientific impact of ESA and European missions in terms of new discoveries and advances in Earth system science this study addresses challenges in the research of greenhouse gases with a focus on methane. Specifically, this activity is targeted at improving the accessibility and utility of CH4 from Sentinel-5p. Potentially it will also include data from other sources with spectral bands not covered by Sentinel-5p, e.g. IASI. The new data capabilities in the research of methane shall be used toaddress questions like the evolution of the global CH4 budget or the regional contributions to the global carbon balance.
