M5 System Studies Parallel Phase A contracts for the three M5 candidate missions. Parallel Phase B1 contracts for the selected M5 mission following the Phase A. Carrying 6 experiments (an S-band Synthetic Aperture Radar, a Subsurface Radar, 3 spectrometers and a Radio science experiment), Envision will investigate Venus from its interior to its atmosphere at an unprecedented resolution, characterizing in particular signs of active geology and looking for evidences of the past existence of oceans. Envision will help understanding why the most Earth-like planet in the solar system has turned out so differently, opening a new era in the exploration of our closest neighbour. EnVision would be launched on an Ariane 6.2, arriving at Venus after a 5 months cruise, undergoing a nearly 2 years aerobraking phase before starting a ~2.5 years science mission in a low polar orbit. EnVision is foreseen to be implemented with significant NASA participation.
