The activity aims at specifying, designing and prototyping a generic Payload execution platform compliant to the SAVOIRAvionics System Reference Architecture and On-Board Software Reference Architecture. The resulting execution platform, made available to Space European community, shall minimise integration issues with the platform through the standardisation of interfaces and services it supports. Description: The Space Avionics Open Interface Architecture (SAVOIR) initiative aims at establishing a streamlined on-board architecture in order to standardize the development of avionics systems for space programmes. The SAVOIR-FAIRE working group defined an On-Board Software Reference Architecture mainly focusing on the main platform computer and in parallel, the On-Board Software Reference Architecture for Payloads (OSRA-P) TRP activity is currently applying the approach defined by SAVOIR-FAIRE to Payloads. This will result in the identification of the functions and services that shall belong to the payloads Component and Execution Platform layers. Recent spacecraft reviews clearly shows that the understanding of requirements contained in the Experiment Interface Document (EID-A) is usually different from a Prime Investigator to another and to the platform provider. This leads to many non-compliances generating delays in the development of instruments and issues in their integration with the platform. The OSRA-P study made a survey and an analysis of several instruments. The first results show a great similarity of hardware and software design of the Instrument Control Units. Most of the instrument interfaces to platform are based on Leon processors (Leon3-FT in ASIC version as UT699 and GR712 or as IP core library implemented in a FPGA), have to manage standard communication interfaces, i.e. SpaceWire and/or MIL-STD-1553B and to support the same subset of Packet Utilisation Standard (PUS) services, e.g. for Telecommand, Telemetry and memory management. The standardisation of the interfaces and services shall ease the integration of the payloads with the platform and the development of payloads by providing them standard building blocks. The activity will provide a clear definition of the payload architecture and the identification and specification of all the services it shall contain. This specification will be used to develop a prototype of the Generic On-board Payload Execution platform targeting Leon multicores and possibly SSDP based computers. As far as possible, the prototype will use existing building blocks (e.g. RTOS, partition kernel, PUS library, OBCP engine, etc.) and will experiment a remote boot using SpaceWire RMAP protocol. The missing functions and services will be developed and integrated in the system. The new developments will follow the ECSS standards in order to ease their proper qualification and reuse. he prototype shall be able to demonstrate the concepts through the execution of representative use cases and to support the future qualification process. It will then be possible to reuse it entirely or partly for the development of new payloads or to use it as a reference implementation supporting both payload and platform developments.
