The CubeSat Opportunity Payload Intersatellite Network Sensors (COPINS) is a payload onboard of the Asteroid Impact Mission, a mission targeting binary asteroid 65803 Didymos and observing the high-speed impact by a US spacecraft, DART, as part of the Asteroid Impace and Deflection Assessment (AIDA) cooperation. AIM is currently under phase A/B1 study by ESA. The payload is made up by a set of 2 CubeSat dispensers, with a capacity of up to three 1U CubeSats each. The Cubesats use an Intersatellite Link to communicate withthe ground through the AIM spacecraft and transmit basic telemetry and sensor data. The sensor will be expected to address objectives that are relevant to the AIM mission. The specific objective of the sensors, either individually or as a system, their design andthe design of the Cubsesat platform is the subject of this Announcement of Opportunity within ESA´s SysNova scheme. This is used bythe Agency to propose technical challenges for industry and academia to put forward their solutions. The technical challenge will address the concept for deployment and operation of the Cubesats network, the Cubesats configurations and payloads, and their missionin the vicinity of asteroid Didymos around October 2022, when the DART impact will take place.
