Rosetta overflight of the Lutetia asteroid on 10 July 2010.

Media is invited to the Space Operations Centre of the European Space Agency in Darmstadt, Germany, to track the Lutetia asteroid overflights by Rosetta spacecraft on 10 July from 18: 00-23: 00 local time. First images of the asteroid will be released at midnight, experts being available for interviews.

The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was set up by the General Assembly in 1959 ( resolution 1472 (XIV)) to review the scope of international cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space, to devise programmes in this field to be undertaken under United Nations auspices, to encourage continued research and the dissemination of information on outer space matters, and to study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space.

The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) met in Vienna from 3 to 12 June 2009. The Romanian delegation led by Mr. Marius-Ioan Piso, President of the Romanian Space Agency, was composed of experts for the agenda issues of interest to Romania.


The President of the Romanian Space Agency, Mr. Marius-Ioan Pisom and Ms. Mazlan Othman, Director of the UN Office on space problems, signed today, 4 June 2009 in Vienna, a cooperation agreement on the establishment in Bucharest of a regional office of SPIDER system.

SPIDER stands for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response, under the UN coordination.
