The GOLIAT satellite was launched on 13 February 2012, 10:00 UT, from the Guiana Space Center onthe VEGA European missile which performed its first qualification flight (VV01). The satellite was launched together with LARES and ALMASAT satellites of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and with other six nanosatellite from France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary.

The Association of Space Explorers (ASE) is developing a series of "challenges" with a global scope in mind. The first two are the following:

  1. The Gurdians of Earth
  2. Launching imaginations. Inspiring dreams.

The acting President of the ASE is the Romanian Cosmonaut Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu.

Vega is all set for launch on Monday. The new launcher passed its final hurdle on Saturday at Europe’s Spaceport, the Launch Readiness Review, and is ready for liftoff.

PR 2 2012 - On 13 February, the European Space Agency will perform the first qualification flight of its brand new Vega launch vehicle.

The very first Vega will lift off from Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, to release nine satellites into orbit and add a new capability to Europe’s fleet of launch systems.

GOLIAT este primul nanosatelit românesc și este dezvoltat de către un consorţiu de cercetare condus de Agenţia Spatială Română. Lansarea satelitului se va face în zborul inaugural al rachetei VEGA a Agenţiei Spaţiale Europene, programat pentru sfârșitul lunii ianuarie 2012.
