Romania's delegation to the 65th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

The 65th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) will take place in Vienna from 1-10 June 2022.

Romania, through Dr. Phys Marius-Ioan Piso, President of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA), opened the meeting yesterday as UN COPUOS Chair for the period 2020-2022. After the agenda of the meeting was adopted, a new board for the next 2 years was elected. The representative of the UAE is the new Chair.

The President of ROSA will continue to participate in the COPUOS leadership for the next two years as a member of the trio coordinating the committee, consisting of the former, current and future Chair. In this capacity, Mr Piso is also a member of the Group of Bureau Members (G-15), including Working Group chairs of COPUOS, STSC and LSC and the Director of UNOOSA.

On the agenda for this year's meeting are topics such as: Ways and Means of Maintaining Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes , Space and Sustainable Development, Spin-off benefits of space technology: review of current status, Space and Climate Change, and the Space2030 Agenda.

The resolution on the Space Agenda2030 proposed by Romania - Permanent Mission to the UN and COPUOS Presidency brought together 61 sponsoring states from all geographical and political groups.
