The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs - UNOOSA is responsible for promoting international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. This office was originally created in order to provide the secretariat of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space - COPUOS, established in December 1958.
In 1993 the Secretariat became the UN Office for Space Businesses with permanent headquarters in Vienna, which has among its tasks the implementation of decisions of the UN and COPUOS General Secretary, supporting the countries in developing peaceful use space technologies.
