Usual (even commercial) Structural Finite Element Codes are so far not validated for a modeling of the cyclic deformation and the cyclic damage of extremely loaded actively cooled hot gas wall structures under conditions such as: - Extremely high temperatures (around 1000 K with holding time up to 600 s) - Extremely high heat fluxes (up to 100 MW/m2 in the nozzle throat region of regeneratively cooled combustion chambers, up to 10 MW/m2 in the dump cooled parts of nozzle extensions) resulting in temperature gradients of several hundred K/mm - Resulting cyclic plastic straining of the wall material of about 2% (1% strain amplitude) - Resulting Ultra Low Cycle Fatigue failure of about 100 cycles to rupture The work will be based on: - Cost efficient and highly accurate Low Cycle Fatigue tests of realistically loaded wall cut-outs with maximum temperatures around 1000 K, heat flux values up to 20 MW/m2, strain amplitudes around 1%) in order to create validation data (2d temperature and deformation measurements) for the follow-on numerical analysis - Validation of an state-of-the-art structural FE model with combination of state of the art hardening laws and analysis integrated damage and ageing of the tested wall material The proposed program of work is therefore: 1. Characterization of the tested material by standard material tests (e.g. tensile, LCF, creep) 2. Design and manufacturing of channel representative samples 3. Tests of panels under realistic hot run conditions for creating validation data 4. Finite Element analyses of the panel tests with material parameters determined from standard material tests (task 1) and validation of these analyses with panel test results (task 3) Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
