On the occasion of the 21 August 2017 Total Solar Eclipse, the Eclipse Ballooning Project funded by NASA and inspired by the Eclipser 1 Romanian initiative, will see students conducting high altitude balloon (HAB) flights from about 25 locations across the total eclipse path, from Oregon to South Carolina, sending live video and images from near space to the NASA website.

The 42nd Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research – COSPAR will be held in Pasadena, California, between 14 – 22 July 2018. The event also marks the 60th anniversary of COSPAR. The Committee was established in 1958 to promote international cooperation in the pursuit of scientific research in space, Romania being a member since 1964. Abstract submissions for COSPAR 2018 will open on 19 August and close on 9 February 2018.

In a research breakthrough, a team of scientists has for the first time derived a complete picture of the distribution of all light energy contained within our Galaxy. The research was done by an international team of scientists from the Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy (Romania), the University of Central Lancashire (UK) and the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg (Germany).
