The European Space Agency (ESA) organises an Industry Day that will present upcoming procurements opportunities for Period 3 of the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme. Romania is one of the 19 countries participating in this ESA programme. The event will take place on 16 March, at the European Centre for Space Operations (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany.
The first stage of the SSA programme was launched in 2009, with the purpose of implementing a system that will allow Europe to autonomously monitor the space environment and mitigate hazards to the population and to infrastructure both in orbit and on the ground.
Through the SSA programme, ESA is aiming to connect existing assets and develop new ones, which will provide timely information on space weather, near-Earth objects and space debris that threaten satellites in orbit or life on earth.
Stage two of the programme took place in 2013-2016 and now ESA is preparing to launch Period 3 (2017-2020), which aims to transition towards operational systems.
