Sixth Conference on Space Systems as Critical Infrastructure, Mamaia, 3 4 August 2017

on 02 August 2017

On 3 August sessions of the sixth edition of the European Conference on Space Systems as Critical Infrastructure open. The event is organised by the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) together with the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and this year’s edition is “Disruptive innovation and critical space infrastructure”. The event will be held in Mamaia, Romania, between 3 – 4 August 2017.

When it comes to the functioning of advanced societies, the increasing dependence on certain space systems places them firmly in the area of critical infrastructure, whose disruption or destruction would generate lasting damage. In this context, the aim of the event is to bring space experts at the same table and build a common rationale and straightforward understanding of the ways in which short and long-term space-related action should be framed for the benefit of all actors involved.

Dr. Phys. Marius-Ioan Piso, President of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) will give the opening presentation of the conference and moderate one of the three conference sessions on the larger theme of Disruptive innovation and critical space infrastructure:

Session 1: Space Systems as Critical Infrastructure

Session 2: Mega-constellations, Nano-satellites, Nano-launchers

Session 3: Persistent communication and surveillance systems, orbital bodies removal

The conference will conclude with a round table discussion, having as panellists: Marius-Ioan Piso (ROSA), Adrian Gheorghe (Old Dominium University), Marius Eugen Opran (ROSA) și Alexandru Badea (ROSA).

The Scientific Programme Committee includes:

  • Chair – Dr. Marius-Ioan Piso (President and CEO, Romanian Space Agency)
  • Co-chair – Dr. Sergio Camacho (Secretary General CRECTEALC, Mexico)
  • Rapporteur – Dr. Peter Hulsroj (Director, European Space Policy Institute)
