Fly a Rocket! 2021 Open for Proposals

on 06 October 2020

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) is inviting bachelor students early in their studies to apply for the 2021 edition of the Fly a Rocket! programme, organised by the ESA Education office, which gives them the opportunity to launch their own student rocket from the Andoya Space Center, in Northern Norway. The deadline for submitting the applications is 26 October 2020.

Fly a Rocket! is a hands-on programme which will give the24 selected candidates a chance to learn more about space science and technology, and to launch their very own student rocket from the Andoya Space Centre in Northern Norway.

The programme is offered under an agreement between the ESA Education office, the Norwegian Centre for Space-related Education (NAROM), and the Norwegian Space Centre (NorskRomsenter).

From November 2020 to February 2021, the selected candidates will take part in an online course where they have the opportunity to learn the necessary theoretical background for the rocket campaign – both from an engineering and scientific perspective. Topics covered include rocket dynamics, orbital mechanics, atmospheric and aurora physics, soldering, and data analysis, among others.

Applications will be judged on the relevance of the programme to the students’ education and ambitions, proposals for promotional activities relating to the programme and/or ‘space’, and a proposal for a hypothetical sounding rocket payload.

To apply, the students can read more information on ESA website and fill in the application form.

Successful applicants will have all costs (i.e. travel, accommodation, participation in the campaign) covered by the organisers. Travel costs will be reimbursed in accordance with the ESA Education sponsorship criteria.
