Applications open for new e-Technology Lab primary teachers workshops

on 29 August 2018

The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) invites primary school teachers to apply to the technology and robotics workshops that will take place at the e-Technology Lab at the ESA Education Training Centre, Belgium, in November and December 2018.

The three-identical technology and robotics workshops for primary school teachers from ESA Member and Associate States will take place on 12-13 November, 22-23 November and 6-7 Decemberrespectively. Interested teachers can chose to apply to one of the three workshops only.

During the workshops, teachers will be guided through activities that can be performed in the classroom, such as creating robots using the LEGO WeDO hardware and software and using them to perform a ‘mission on Mars’. Teachers will also be introduced to Astro Pi, a Raspberry Pi computer used to explore computer programming in a space context.

Inspired by real ESA space missions, teachers will learn about the different kinds of expertise and skills necessary to make a space project successful, and how they can use space to engage their students in STEM subjects.

Teachers wishing to participate should fill in the relevant application form.

The deadlines to submit applications are:

  • 26 September 2018 for the workshop taking place on 12-13 November 2018. Applicants will be notified by 1 October, whether successful or not.
  • 26 September 2018 for the workshop taking place on 22-23 November 2018. Applicants will be notified by 1 October, whether successful or not.
  • 17 October 2018 for the workshop taking place on 6-7 December 2018. Applicants will be notified by 22 October, whether successful or not.

ESA reserves the right to close the application window earlier than the given deadline if a sufficient number of quality applications are received. In such case, an announcement will be posted on the ESA Education Facebook page.

The workshops will take place at the ESA Education Training Centre at ESEC-Galaxia, located in Transinne, Belgium.

ESA will cover the travel expenses up to a maximum of 200 euros per teacher, and will organise and cover the costs for accommodation, catering, and local transportation.
