Literary science fiction contest

Theme "From the Earth to Planet X"

EURISY in cooperation with the Norwegian Centre for Education in Space (NARON) and UNESCO encourages young minds to explore, peacefully, the space and it is organizing a science fiction writing competition. Participants must imagine and write scripts that describe progress, development, discoveries related to science or social life in outer space.


Who can participate? The contest covers two age groups:

  - 12-14 years and 15-17 years.

The competition is open to students from EURISY member countries, from ESA Member States and from the European and North American UNESCO states .


The story may relate a travel or life on other planets of our Solar System, a meeting with other beings or entities, a construction in space, a scientific discovery, etc. highlighting the idea of peaceful use and exploration of outer space. Any idea is welcome, there are no limits, so let your imagination run wild!


Your story (maximum 1,000 words) can be written preferably in English or, if not in your national language and addressed to your national contact center. (See below list of national contacts). The National Center will select the best works (on age groups), translate them into English and send them to EURISY, then final selection will be made by an international jury.

They will be admitted onlyfirst time participating in a competition works.
The works that have won other competitions will not be considered.
The papers must be typed (typewriter or computer). The hand written will not be accepted.
Your story must be accompanied by an OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM. (Click here)


Entries must be sent to the national contact center by regular mail or e-mail, before 15 May 2005. The National Contact Center will send the selected works EURISY no later than June 15, 2005.


Papers will be judged taking into account the approach to the theme, originality and creativity.


The best story in each age group will be awarded the first prize: a digital camera.

It will also give consolation prizes (second and third)

Announcing the Winners

Winners will be notified directly by EURISY in July 2005. Their names and stories will be featured on EURISY and UNESCO websites .


All the submitted will be the property of the contest organizers (EURISY, NAROM and UNESCO). They may be used in publications or promotional materials.
